Backed by science, approved by stylists
K18 is a leave-in molecular hair-repair mask that was established in 2020. It was created by Suveen Sahib, an engineer and tech expert, and his wife, Britta Cox, a beauty-industry professional who had already seen significant success with her brand Aquis, a hair-drying tool.
How Do I Use K18?
The restorative mask has very specific instructions that you must follow:
1. Shampoo, do not condition
2. Towel dry
3. Work one to two pumps of product into your hair from ends to roots,
4. Let it sit for four minutes
5. Don’t rinse it out
Use it at least six times in a row.
Is K18 Like Olaplex?
The Science: both Olaplex and K18 are formulated with a patented technology-based ingredient. Olaplex's is bis-aminopropyl diglycol dimaleate, and K18's is K18Peptide, which is said to act as a protective shield.
You can read more about the science stuff here.
It is often compared to Olaplex, which is a hair brand that has been the go-to for repairing damaged and coloured hair with a three-step bonding system including an intensive treatment, hair perfecter, and moisture mask.
The system has been around for almost a decade and gained fast traction when it first launched; it was even Kim Kardashian's secret to reversing her damaged hair.
